This scholarship was created in memory of Nina Bechtel Knox, a 1976 graduate of Madeira High School. Nina’s family, classmates and friends established this scholarship to continue her legacy of happiness and hard work. It is presented to a female student preferably intending to study business or journalism and possessing determination, leadership and academic achievement. “Happiness is a science and a choice, a journey everyone can possess and enjoy.”
One award of $1,000
This scholarship is available to female students only with a preference given to those pursuing degrees in business, journalism, or creative writing.
Criteria for selection
Please draft essay responses to the following 2 questions:
How has your Madeira education given you a step up in the path toward your career? What does having a Madeira education mean to you?
“Happiness is a science and a choice, a journey everyone can possess and enjoy.” This was one of Nina’s favorite quotes. What does it mean to you and how will you ensure that you find happiness in your journey?
Additional Documentation Needed:
Two letters of recommendation are required: one from a teacher of student’s choice and another from a source not related to the student.
The recipient is selected by the judging committee, which consists of a family member of Nina Bechtel Knox, a representative from the Madeira Schools Foundation Scholarship Committee, and the MSF Executive Director or President. Scholarship funds are dispersed in August prior to the student’s first semester of college.
